Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas

Safety, Texas
5-11, 198, 4.45-40
Projection: 1st – 2nd round

Plays deep balls well. Instinctive – diagnoses plays quickly and can chase down receivers from sideline to sideline. Reads QB’s eyes well and knows where to position himself in the defensive backfield.

Good closing speed to react to plays in front of him. Rarely fooled by play-action. Covers TE’s and RB’s well in man coverage. Very aggressive in run support. Likes to launch himself at the ball carrier making violent hits. However, needs some work in this area. Will overrun a play and miss the tackle. I expect him to improve in this area in the pros. Left college as a third year sophomore and will mature as a player once coached up. Needs to improve ball awareness when his back is to the QB. Productive – had 8 interceptions this season at Texas. Undersized and needs to add bulk but plays bigger than his measurables. Very competitive and has real passion for the game. Has overcome a lot of adversity.
