2010 Draft

2010 Draft Pick

John Conner

Conner is a powerful lead blocker.

FB, Kentucky
5-11, 246, 4.7-40
5th round pick

Aptly named “The Terminator” by his teammates, Conner is a very physical player who will bring excellent blocking skills to the Jets’ ground game.

Conner is a throw back – he will line up in the I formation and bull doze a path for the running back. He takes a lot of pride in his blocking and it shows.

2010 Draft Pick

Joe Mcknight

McKnight will be a great complement to Shonn Greene.

After staying put for their first and second round picks, the Jets could not help themselves and traded up in the fourth round. The move was a bit of a head scratcher – why would the Jets move up to take another running back?

Things became clearer in the fifth round when they traded Leon Washington to the Seahawks. They must have known they would be dealing him and needed a change of pace back.

2010 Draft Pick

Vladimir DuCasse

DuCasse will sit for a year before taking over for Faneca.

I had the Jets taking DuCasse in my first mock draft and although that might have been a reach, it shows how much I like this guy. DuCasse has the size and skills to develop into a starting guard and could even project to right tackle down the road.

I love this pick! The Jets’ scouting department really knows what it’s doing. DuCasse fits in perfectly with their offensive philosophy.

2010 Draft Pick

Kyle Wilson

Wilson is a fearless punt returner.

Kyle Wilson not only has shutdown ability as a corner, he is a phenomenal special teams player and should contribute right away in this area.

Punt returning is one of the hardest things to do in football. You have to field the ball cleanly, decide whether you want to fair catch then make the first guy miss. You need quick twitch athleticism and Wilson has it.

2010 Draft Pick

Kyle Wilson

He has Pro Bowl ability.

The Jets came into Thursday night with two primary needs on defense: get an outside linebacker that can rush the quarterback or take a safety who could be paired alongside Jim Leonhard. But the Jets went in a different direction.

It’s always disappointing when your team does not address its biggest need in the first round but it is more important to get good value and the Jets did that.

2010 Draft Pick

Kyle Wilson

Wilson fits perfectly into the Jets' scheme.

This pick is all about the Jets’ loss in Indianapolis. The Jets ran out of bodies at corner and could not keep up with the Colts’ wideouts.

To compete in the NFL defenses need three and four good corners to contain the wide-open sets that are thrown at them. Despite bringing in Cromartie, the Jets were still down a corner and needed an upgrade over Dwight Lowery at nickel.

2010 Prospect

CJ Wilson

DE, East Carolina
6-3, 285, 4.9-40
Projection: 4th round

A relentless, high-motor player. Always hustling. Plays with a lot of violence – knocked out a few QB’s. Very strong with long arms and big hands.

2010 Prospect

Damian Williams

WR, USC
6-1, 197, 4.53-40
Projection: 2nd round

Williams is a very polished receiver who runs excellent routes and is elusive in the open field. Is quicker than fast and eats up the corner’s cushion quickly. Is very deceptive in his routes and often gets defenders turned around and off balance. Is very similar to Steve Smith of the Giants.

2010 Prospect

TJ Ward

S, Oregon
5-10, 211, 4.59-40
Projection: 4th round

A devastating hitter. Ward throws his body around with reckless abandon and has all the makings of a fine special teams player at the next level. He can also play strong safety but does not have the long speed to run with faster receivers.
